Wetang'ula accuses Raila of dishonesty

National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetang'ula on Sunday called out Azimio leader, Raila Odinga over 'lack of democracy' in his ODM party.

Speaking in Migori county, Wetang'ula wondered why it is right for Odinga to meet president William Ruto on matters concerning Kenyans, but it is a crime for some ODM legislatures to meet the Head of State over the same.

Months back, Odinga reportedly met Ruto in Mombasa in the wake of anti-government protests over the high cost of living.

Last week, five legislatures were expelled from the Raila Odinga-led ODM party, for among others, cooperating with president Ruto.

Wetang'ula said every leader has every right to meet the president, provided it is about the people.

“If it is good for the party leader of a certain party to go to Mombasa and talk to the president about the welfare of the people of Kenya, then what is wrong if Nyamita goes to see the president to talk about Uriri?” paused the Speaker.

Mark Nyamita is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Uriri in Migori county.

He was among those fined for showing 'willingness to work with the president.'

"You were elected to represent the people of Uriri, represent them by opening each and every door," added Wetang'ula.

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi who is among the five lawmakers expelled by ODM was in attendance.

He said they will use legal means to remain in ODM.

"We have not done anything wrong. For my case to go and lobby for Suba people to get a road, and we must speak the truth and I am emphasizing here that if we go to court we are going to win,” said the first term MP.

He added that when they move to court, they will in the end embarrass the ODM party.

“I am a lawyer and I assure you we are going to win. Let me tell you why there was no tribunal that tried us are we together that is why I am saying this thing is going to embarrass the party.”

Kisumu County Senator Tom Ojienda, Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o, Gem's Elisha Odhiambo and Bondo's Gideon Ochanda are the others expelled by ODM.
