Who is laughing now? Gachagua mocks Azimio, Karua
By Peter Ochieng
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has not forgotten how he was allegedly branded uncultured, ahead of the August 9th, 2022 presidential contest.
At that time, he was the Kenya Kwanza vice presidential candidate, deputising William Ruto.
Speaking at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday during Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and heads of state parastatals performance contract signing event, Gachagua said he was mocked by the media and Azimio leaders and supporters for not 'dressing properly.'
"Azimio and the media despised me saying that I am not cultured and that I don't know how to dress properly. I played a fool till the presidential debate when I released proper English," recounted the former Mathira MP.
Ahead of the polls, Gachagua battled Martha Karua, the Azimio vice presidential candidate in the deputy presidential debate.
Neutral observers hold the opinion that Gachagua outperformed himself and Karua, during the debate.
"That is the last day I heard of Karua. The next time I saw her with a sufuria on the head," added the DP.
Concerning the contract signing, Gachagua said it is a step in the right direction.
"President Ruto has shown commitment to delivery of the Plan. But this will be achieved through efficient, effective, accountable, disciplined and focused leadership at the ministries, state departments and agencies."
"There is no room for failure or excuse. We plan well and be deliberate in our strategic implementation of the plan, which is the bigger contract President Ruto signed with Kenyans," he added.
