World steeplechase champion banned over dopping

Women’s steeplechase world champion Norah Jeruto has been provisionally banned over dopping allegations.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced the decision on Friday, April 07, 2023.

Jeruto is a Kenyan-born Kazakhstan athlete. She won the 3,000m steeplechase women race during World Athletics Championships in Eugene, United States of America (USA) in 2022.

She reached the finish line in a time of 8: 53:02; the third-fastest time in history.

Norah Jeruto reportedly used a prohibited substance.

“The AIU has provisionally suspended Norah Jeruto (Kenya/Kazakhstan) for the use of a Prohibited Substance/Method,” AIU announced on Twitter.

Investigations against her are ongoing.

AIU had over the years banned Kenyan athletes for dopping.
