You’ll go home and nothing will happen, Otuoma tells Gachagua

By Peter Ochieng

Busia governor Paul Nyongesa Otuoma has told Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to prepare to go home, in the wake of an impeachment motion tabled against him.

Speaking in Mayenje Ward on Saturday, Busia governor Paul Nyongesa Otuoma said by virtue of his position as the second in command, Gachagua erred in championing for development of the Mt. Kenya region, at the expense of other parts of the Country.

“You can’t be a national leader and every time your work is Mt, Kenya. So, does it mean that the rest of us are not Kenyans? You are the deputy president of everybody, but you have made us tired with your politics of shareholding,” he said.

The first term county boss poured cold water on Gachagua’s threats, over his impending impeachment.

“Even now you are threatening us that if you are impeached, this and that will happen. Nothing will happen, you will go home and Kenyan will just go on,” added Otuoma.

Leaders, he added, must be held to account. “And the whole country is not going to mark time because of an individual.”

Otuoma urged residents of Busia County to invest at home, so as to complement the County government’s development efforts.

“There is a need for our people to consider investing home to complement my government’s efforts. I equally wish to encourage professionals to give back to the Busia community.”

The County Aggregation and Industrial Park which is halfway from completion, and the Export Processing Zone which is under construction at Nasewa, the County boss stated, are flagship projects that will integrate Busia and the region to the economy of East Africa.

“Once complete, the two projects alone have the potential of elevating this region into a logistic hub that will open up numerous opportunities and open up our economy,” said Otuoma.

He added that the One Stop Border Posts in Busia and Malaba have improved bilateral trade, despite the fact that they also rendered jobless people who were actively involved in logistic services.
