At least 200 litres of illicit liquor were destroyed during a raid on brewers in Kitutu Central Sub County last Tuesday.
The operation which was led by the Township Location Chief, Richard Moturi and two members of the community policing team was conducted at the home of Yunis Onserio in Iteresi village.
The chief disclosed that the targeted raid also resulted in the seizure of several pieces of brewing equipment and called for the enhancement of persistent raids to end the brewing business.
The crackdown on illicit dens is part of the mitigation measures that are currently being implemented by the National Government Administration Officers in conjunction with police officers to eradicate brewing activities in the county entirely.
However, no arrests were made during the exercise because the culprits fled the homestead upon noticing the presence of the area chief.
This comes days after the Kisii County Commissioner, Tom Anjere decried the rise in cases of insecurity in the region which he attributed to the distribution of illicit brew.
He pointed out that the county security committee had made a collective decision to combat the illicit brew business by devising various measures to counter the illegal trade.
