Businesses have reopened in Machakos town as the anti-government protests enter day two.

There is relative ease and calm across the entire town, but both human and vehicular traffic is less with transport slowly returning to normalcy.

However, there is still uncertainty in the sector, with majority of the matatus in operation plying short distances.

Residents who spoke to KNA expressed their frustration over the mass action that has paralyzed normal operations in the town.

Mr. Musembi Muthoka, a hawker said business has been bad since yesterday as people kept off the town. "Customers are very few and the sales have plummeted," said Musembi.

The hawker lauded Machakos residents for giving the protests a wide berth. "Although businesses activities are slow, at least there is peace," noted Musembi.

The sentiments were echoed by Ms. Jedidah Mbatha who noted that the protests will not tame the high cost of living. "In fact, the demonstrations are only worsening the situation," she said.
