Deputy minority leader urges government to deal with relevant issues first
By Robert Mutasi
Deputy minority leader of the National Assembly, Robert Mbui, has urged the government to focus on critical issues concerning the public that are affecting Kenyans.
Mbui criticized the government for putting more effort into private issues that do not benefit Kenyans.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Mbui stated that the nation is in a bad situation regarding the economy.
He noted that many Kenyans are going through a lot due to the high cost of commodities that keep skyrocketing.
The Member of Parliament for Kathiani condemned President William Ruto's government for ignoring the complaints and cries of Kenyans and urged them to be empathetic.
Mbui asked if the government was aware that Kenyans are seriously suffering.
He cautioned the government to concentrate on how they will deal with the problems facing Kenyans instead of matters related to the Finance Bill.
The lawmaker stated that if the bill passed into law, it would add more burdens to Kenyans through taxation.
Mbui argued that raising more taxes when the country is going through serious economic challenges is not good.
He advised the Kenya Kwanza government not to make the 3% Housing policy compulsory for employed people since not all will afford to pay.
The MP noted that the government is using force to ensure that the Finance Bill 2023 is passed without engaging the public.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, during a fundraising event at St. Charles Lwanya Boys Secondary School in Kitui on June 3, stated that the Finance Bill 2023 will be passed despite opposition from Azimio la Umoja.
The DP's remarks caused reactions from a section of Kenyans, condemning him for chest-thumping.
