Equity Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Mwangi has landed a new appointment.
President William Ruto on Thursday appointed Mwangi as the Chancellor of the first virtual public university in Kenya.
The institution is based at Konza Technopolis, in Machakos County.
Ruto said he knows Mwangi will provide a safe pair of hands to steer the university forward.
He spoke on Thursday when awarded the charter at the varsity's grounds.
"For the appointment of the Chancellor of the Open University of Kenya, I was specific when I told CS Machogu whom I wanted to be. I know that with his stewardship, the university is safe."
"In accordance with the requirements of the law, I, William Samoei Ruto, the President of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces, satisfied that the awarding of the charter to the Open University of Kenya will be of benefit to the advancement of University Education in Kenya.”
Professor Ezra Maritim was appointed as the university’s council chair.
Speaking at the same event, Makueni governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior urged the president to govern without fear.
"We trust you and Kenyans trust you. The sword we gave you is to rule the country. Do it without fear or favour. When I say Kenya must have peace it is important because it is that peace that brings us the kind of investment we have seen in Konza," said the former Senator.
Mutula was elected on the Wiper Party ticket, under the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
