FKF Presidential aspirant calls for electoral transparency ahead of elections

Football Kenya Federation presidential aspirant Hussein Mohammed called for the electoral process to be openly and transparently done as the federation goes to the polls on December 15, 2024.

Mohammed warned of manipulation of the voter register by some people in the FKF Secretariat and called for a free and fair process.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mohammed warned that the voter register was sacrosanct and had been tampered with in the past. 

"We are quite aware of the attempts in the past and continuous ones by some individuals within the FKF Secretariat to manipulate the voter register; this practice cannot be allowed to continue," Mohammed said.

The presidential aspirant had insisted on the publishing and making the voter register fully transparent to avoid such manipulation. 

As Mohammed argued, the security of the register guarantees the persistence of justice and democracy during elections.

"The voter register is made public, transparent, and tamper-proof to ensure every eligible voter gets equal opportunity in this election," he added.

Mohammed further expressed his doubts on the independence of the FKF Electoral Board and asked it to prove that it was independent by moving its operations from Kandanda House, the current FKF headquarters.

He said this would ensure the election process remains free from undue influence by incumbent FKF officials, most of whom are also contesting.

"The FKF Electoral Board must act to demonstrate its independence by operating from a neutral location entirely detached from Kandanda House. This, in fact, is the surest way of ensuring the electoral process remains free from undue influence by incumbent FKF officials, most of whom are also contesting," Mohammed added.

With the date for the election drawing closer and closer, Mohammed's remarks have shed light on the greater issue of governance in Kenyan football.

His call for a free, transparent, and independent electoral process rings in the minds of those many stakeholders who dream of a new dawn in the FKF leadership.

These looming elections are considered a watershed moment in Kenyan football-a sport in which many fans and participants are seriously expecting change and reform.

Mohammed's emphasis on accountability, transparency, and fairness reflects the growing demands in the FKF for more inclusive and democratic procedures.
