Illegal Ethiopian immigrants arraigned in court

Sixteen Ethiopian nationals were on Tuesday arraigned in a Loitoktok law court and were charged with being in the country illegally.

The foreigners who included 12 adults and 4 minors appeared before Resident Magistrate Nelson Njuguna after they were arrested on October 29 last month.

According to the prosecution, the Ethiopian nationals were dumped at Loitoktok forest at around 3.45pm on the material day.

They walked to Loitoktok police station where they sought assistance. However, they were arrested and charged with the offence.

The Magistrate directed the Officer in charge of Loitoktok police station to ensure the minors are repatriated back to their country of origin.

The 12 adults pleaded guilty for being in the country illegally and were each fined 50,000 or to serve one month jail term after which they are to be repatriated back to Ethiopia.
