Kajiado county governor Joseph ole Lenku has reiterated that the county residents will safeguard their peace despite efforts by politicians to cause violence.

Speaking at an event in Kajiado over the weekend, the governor noted that Kajiado has been a peaceful county and this is because its earlier leaders ensured that people lived in harmony with one another.

"I commit that the peace that prevails within the county won’t be ruined during my leadership by people who want to cause disunity. As leaders, we must refrain from sowing seeds of discord among the people,” said Governor Lenku.

While referring to the chaotic scenes that were witnessed in the Kajiado County Assembly when a petition to impeach him was presented on Tuesday last week, the governor said that it was a first of its kind and they will not allow any divisions in Kajiado.

“As Kajiado, we will safeguard our peace. We won’t allow divisions. The Executive won’t fight with the assembly because the trajectory our predecessors set is the trajectory of peace and that is the trajectory we will keep as that is the trajectory we want. Kajiado is well known for peace and let us maintain that peace,” Said Lenku.

He added that what is important now is for the people of Kajiado to receive development projects irrespective of the political affiliation of their leaders.

On his part, Kajiado County Senator Samuel Seki urged the Kajiado County Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to work with the county executive to deliver development to the people of Kajiado as they have very limited time to work with the county executive to achieve their development agenda.

A petition to impeach governor Lenku from office was submitted by the county’s former director of revenue Musa Tipape Naini on Tuesday, 31st October 2023 over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

People believed to be governor Lenku supporters clashed with security officers manning the county assembly while in a bid to prevent Naini from submitting the petition.

He however managed to submit the petition amidst the chaos.

The petitioner further called for demonstrations against governor Lenku on Wednesday after the submission but he later called them off on allegations that ‘governor Lenku was mobilizing youths across the county to bring fracas on the peaceful demonstrations.’

Kajiado County Assembly Speaker Justus Ngossor has since issued a statement on the invasion of the county assembly by members of the public and noted that the assembly’s management has launched investigations into the incident and will ensure that the perpetrators will face the full force of the law to avoid reoccurrence.
