Church leader asks Government to take action against illicit liquor manufacturers

Deliverance church International General Overseer Bishop, Dr Mark Kariuki has called on the government to deal firmly with manufacturers and distributors of illicit and second-generation liquor that has continued to wreck lives and turning youths into zoobies within Mt. Kenya region.

Bishop Kariuki said whereas they are supporting the campaign by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on the fight against drug abuse and alcoholism, the manufacturers of the poisonous liquor are known and should be arrested and made to close down the industries.

Speaking at Deliverance church in Embu during their 20 years celebrations, Dr Mark said that there seems to be a deliberate move to distribute the poisonous liquor in the Mt Kenya region as opposed to other areas.

The bishop noted that there is a direct connection between the illicit second-generation liquor and the increased cases of death by suicide that has also rocked the region.

Bishop Kariuki has also called upon the congregation not to be lured into giving money to false priests for miracles saying that they should pray to God for help instead of being conned in the name of anointing oils and symbiotic items.

The bishop drummed support for the government housing project saying if well implemented can create employment to thousands of Kenyans both directly and indirectly.

On his part, Manyatta member of parliament Gitonga Mukunji called on Interior Cabinet minister Kithure Kindiki to make use of the available law to reign in on the manufacturers and distributors of illicit second-generation liquor.
