Matayos Member of Parliament Geofrey Odanga has faulted the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) over alleged poor workmanship on local roads that has led to increase in accidents along major highways.
Speaking at Ebenezer Academy where he went to condole with parents who lost their children following a road accident on Saturday, Odanga decried that the organization has poor engineers who he claimed failed to design roads to the expected safety standards.
“This Kaburengu area has been a black spot that has claimed many lives since the road was constructed and it is high time the authority does something about it to avert further loss of lives,” he noted adding that KeNHA should employ qualified engineers.
He demanded that the road at Kaburengu and other areas that have been black spots should be redesigned to meet the safety standards.
“It is indeed sad to lose at this tender age, children in whom parents and the community had a lot of hope in,” he said, adding that Kaburengu area has been a black spot.
The lawmaker pointed out that Sachangwan (Nakuru) had a similar challenge but was redesigned after the intervention of the former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Eight Grade five pupils from the school perished in a grisly road accident that occurred at Kaburengu area along Eldoret Malaba Highway.
On Tuesday evening, Busia Governor Paul Otuoma visited and condoled with the school terming the incident as very shocking.
