A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for stealing a bull contrary to the law.

Appearing before the Makueni Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora Tuesday, the accused Amos Nzise pleaded guilty to the charge.

"I have carefully considered the evidence presented before this court and it's clear that the complaint's bull was stolen by Nzise and has been found guilty and this court sentence him to three years’ imprisonment,” said Gesora.

The accused stole the property of Nicolas Sole at the Kilala location in Makueni Sub-county on April 3, 2023 and was arrested on the same day by officers from the Makueni police Station.

In mitigation, Nzise said that the bull was given to him by a person well known to him on his way to Kilala market saying that he was going to bring cattle to sell during the market day.

“I was given the bull by a person well known to me to assist him take the animal to Kilala market as he went to bring other cattle. I plead to this court to forgive me for this is my first offense,” said Nzise.

However, the accused presented no evidence to prove that the bull was handed to him by the person.

He was taken to the Makueni GK Prison.

The accused was however given 14 days to appeal the sentence.
