A 17-year girl at Ung’atani Primary School in Kathozweni Sub county gave birth to a baby girl at the Makueni County Referral Hospital last night.

The standard 8 pupil gave birth at the Mother and Child section at 9pm on Sunday and is said to be in good health with her baby.

“The girl is in good health and she is sitting for mathematics paper this morning and later English and composition,” said Makueni County Director of Education (CDE) Mr. Charles Nyakundi while talking to KNA on the telephone on Monday.

Nyakundi said that the centre managers in the 9 sub counties across the county have collected the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) kicked off well without any problem.

He further added that transport arrangements, security, supervisors and invigilators are all ready to conduct the examinations in the county.

Meanwhile Parents, teachers and pupils in Makueni Sub County who will engage in examination malpractices will face dire consequences from the government, area Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Joel Mwangala has warned.

Mwangala gave the warning outside Makueni County Commissioner’s office in Wote town while issuing KCPE and KPSEA examinations papers to centre managers on Monday morning.

“Parents, teachers and pupils should not try to cheat during examinations. You will find the examination is fake and there will be costs and you risk being arrested and prosecuted,” warned Mwangala.

“This should be rebuked strongly and we don’t want people to even try,” reiterated the administrator.

Present at the distribution container included Makueni Sub County Director of Education Yobesh Onduso Magara and his counterpart Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Edward Dzani.

It should be observed that 26,835 and 34,794 and 30,149 candidates will sit for KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE examinations respectively in the county. Currently languages like French, Germany besides home science are ongoing in secondary school.

However, KCSE kicks off on 6th to 24th November 2023.

And in Nyeri at least 32,597 candidates will write their Kenya Certificate of Primary School Examination(KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) respectively.

This number consists of 15,857 KPSEA candidates and 16,740 KCPE candidates. In Nyeri Central, 2716 KCPE candidates and 2,863 KPSEA candidates will write this year’s examination.

Nyeri county has 474 KPSEA exam centres and 443 KCPE examination centres with the Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Mwangi saying that over 1,000 securities had been deployed in the different examination centres to man the examinations.

Mwangi said that the officers had been urged to work with the centre managers to uphold the integrity of the examination and to ensure that the exercise runs seamlessly for the next three days.

“Each school has been assigned two officers. We have also put in place measures to ensure that security is tight although we are not anticipating any challenges such as cheating because we briefed the security officers and the centre managers,” said Mwangi.
