'Mathee wa Ngara' to know her fate tommorrow

Businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu alias Mathee wa Ngara wants the court to release her on bail, citing her health condition.

Through her lawyer Danstan Omari, she told the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) law courts that if not released, her medical condition could get worse.

She has been in police custody since her arrest a week ago, within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

The arrest, linked to alleged drug trafficking and handling came after police raided a place believed to be her area of operation in Ngara, Nairobi.

Police recovered several rolls of bhang and over Sh13 million.

Nancy was apprehended hot on heels of arrest of another woman by name Teresia Wanjiru, who was previously suspected to be Mathee wa Ngara.

Teresia is also in police custody. She was in court on Wednesday alongside Nancy, seeking to be released on bail.

On Monday, Nancy collapsed during the hearing of her bail application. She informed the court that her medical condition needs constant review and medication.

She told magistrate Njeri Thuku that she is not flight risk, as claimed by the prosecution.

She denies having any ability to interfere with witnesses, if released albeit on bail. Stephen Chesire, the investigating officer is against any bid to have Nancy and Teresia released on bail.

He told the court that they may abscond court sessions, besides reportedly being flight risk.

"Should the respondents be released before the investigations are complete, there is likelihood that they will interfere with the investigations and compilation of evidence," said Cheshire.

A ruling on the accused's bail application will be delivered tomorrow.
