Mavoko MP released after DCI grilling
By Peter Ochieng
Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau has been released by police.
The legislature was released after interrogation by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers, over allegations of having a hand in violent demonstrations, experienced in Mlolongo on Wednesday.
MP Makua was picked up by police officers on Thursday morning, at his Karen, Nairobi home.
He was ordered to make a date again with police officers on Friday, for further grilling.
The MP reportedly denied any involvement in sponsoring violent protests in Mlolongo, where a section of Expressway barriers were vandalised.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for interior Kithure Kindiki says over 300 people were arrested as a result of the demos across the country.
"312 people who directly or indirectly planned, orchestrated or financed yesterday's violent protests and acts of lawlessness, including a Member of Parliament, have been arrested, and will be charged with various criminal offences. The search for more culprits is on," said the CS.
He spoke while presiding over the openning of Kiserian police station in Kajiado County, on Thursday.
"Violent protests that lead to deaths, injury of civilians and security officers, disruption of daily businesses, destruction of private and public property, and looting are acts of lawlessness that can neither be accepted nor tolerated."
Kindiki said there is no relationship between lowering the cost of living, and destruction of critical infrastructure built using public funds
