Sifuna :Kenya Kwanza MPs Passed Finance bill over fear
By Robert Mutasi
Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna has claimed that the Kenya Kwanza Members of Parliament voted for the Finance Bill 2023 out of fear of President William Ruto.
He has stated that the president controlled the entire process of persuading the MPs to vote for the bill.
Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, Sifuna described the Kenya Kwanza Alliance lawmakers as "cowards" who passed the bill reluctantly.
He insisted that the MPs of Kenya Kwanza were not given the freedom to express their views as freely as ODM leader Raila Odinga does.
"Raila has created an environment where people can speak freely," said the ODM Secretary-general.
According to Sifuna, the decision made by the Kenya Kwanza MPs demonstrated their betrayal of the Kenyan people.
He admitted that many Kenyans were unhappy when the MPs passed the bill.
He added that many Kenyans are suffering due to the high cost of living, which keeps skyrocketing.
"Kenyans are not happy with the extra financial burden they have had to take on," he said.
He condemned the MPs who voted for the bill for prioritizing their interests over those of the citizens.
Before the bill was passed, President William Ruto sent a warning to the MPs that those who voted against the bill would face consequences.
Additionally, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua boasted, while in Kitui County, that Kenya Kwanza had a large number of MPs who could pass the bill.
