Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been impeached for the third time during a County Assembly sitting on Thursday, 8 August, 2024.
40 out of 69 members of the county assembly voted in favour of the impeachment motion on grounds of abuse of office, gross misconduct and gross violation of the Constitution and other laws.
17 MCAs voted against the impeachment while three MCAs Caleb Mutethia , Douglas Mutea, Patrick Maruki did not vote on the motion and casted absent.
The impeachment motion tabled by Deputy Majority Party Leader Zipporah Kinya, meeting the two-thirds threshold.
The embattled Governor stands Impeached in a seemingly bad blood between her leadership and the County Assembly while she has survived precious impeachment at the mercy of the National Assembly.
The Impeachment will now be forwarded to the Senate for voting.
