Miguna to Kuria: You're not fit to serve as clerk in a public office
By Peter Ochieng
Lawyer Joshua Miguna Miguna has suggested that Moses Kuria, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Trade and Industrialisation, probably does not understand his role.
In a statement on X related to the ongoing debate over the high cost of fuel in the country, Kuria stated that as a man in charge of the private sector, his role is to give advise based on science.
"August fuel stocks will land in October. The cost is well known and its scientific. September shipments will land in November. Costs are also known. From there we move to winter in the US and expected stock piles. And then the bilateral arrangements between Saudis and Russia on the one side and China and India on the other hand plus ongoing oil cuts. As Minister responsible for Private Sector mine is to advise business based on science not truthful voodoo," said Kuria.
In response, Miguna told Kuria off reminding him the he was not appointed to only serve the private sector. The advocate said the CS is not fit to serve as a clerk in any public office.
"The fuel prices in Kenya are too high…higher than in North America where citizens’ wages are much higher and there are social cushions provided by the State! You are a CS for Trade: stop repeating these nonsensical excuses for the government’s failure to address the vagaries of institutional corruption and mismanagement!" Miguna wrote.
"You actually believe that your primary responsibility is to serve private enterprises and not Kenyans who elected President @WilliamsRuto and the Kenya Kwanza administration? Then you are not fit to serve as a clerk in any public office because you don’t understand your role; nor do you respect Kenyans who pay your huge salary!"
Similarly, Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale on Sunday urged president William Ruto to sack Trade CS Moses Kuria, his energy counterpart Davis Chirchir, and the Ruto’s economic advisor David Ndii for failing to discharge their mandate accordingly, in the wake of high fuel prices.
“President Ruto, I want to tell you today from Kakamega, the people you have employed have taken you through a wrong turn," he said.
It is not clear whether heads will roll in the Cabinet, when Ruto jets back in the country from his US visit.
