Miguna warns Ruto against Raila's growing popularity
By Peter Ochieng
President William Ruto has been advised to act fast, if he intends to control Azimio leader Raila Odinga's growing popularity.
Lawyer Joshua Miguna Miguna says Odinga is gaining mass following in the country, due to his opposition to the controversial Finance Bill, 2023 being pushed by President Ruto's administration.
The bill which proposes among others the introduction of a 3% housing levy seems to be unpopular among most Kenyans.
Miguna wants the Head of State to listen to Kenyans, and withdraw the bill.
"Pull back. Listen to Kenyans. Withdraw the Finance Bill 2023. Postpone the implementation of the housing levy. Return to the drawing board," noted Miguna.
He urged the President to hire new independent advisors, advising him against relying on 'yes men and women.'
"Hire new, independent and truthful advisors. Reshuffle your communications team and hire two or three fresh faces. Don’t rely on yes men and yes women."
"Don’t be defensive. Don’t argue with the people. Stop hiring and recycling incompetent failures and graft riddled conmen," added the vocal advocate.
He reminded the President that Odinga is first gaining popularity, because of failure by many senior government officials.
"Mwai Kibaki was elected with 68% of votes but was defeated in a referendum 2 years later. Raila Odinga is gaining popularity because many of the senior government officials you have appointed are failing to engage Kenyans in a transparent, respectful and accountable manner. Urgently address the issues of high cost of living, corruption and tribalism," said Miguna.
The Finance Bill, 2023 seems to be unpopular among most Kenyans, whether pro or against the government.
