Morara Kebaso grateful to be alive after Embu accident

By Peter Ochieng

Lawyer turned activist Morara Kebaso says he is grateful to be alive, hours after his car was involved in an accident at Kivwe, in Embu County.

The accident, Kebaso said, was caused by a drunk driver who hit the side of his vehicle as he was speeding off.

As such, the tires of the Prado he was traveling in all bursts and airbags were deployed which prevented injuries.

In an update on his social media pages, the activist said he immediately left the scene in another car, reading mischief into the accident.

"Yesterday after the accident, I disappeared very fast from the scene in another car because sometimes accidents are used to cause confusion so that the real thing can happen. I don't want to blame anyone without evidence but now I know am on a clock," he said.

Kebaso said his activism work, which entails exposing stalled or abandoned government projects even after tax payers money was paid to contractors, has created a lot of enemies who may all be after his life.

"I have too many enemies to start guessing who can do it. The government officials that we have exposed, the opposition that feels we are taking their space, rising tribal chiefs that feel like our message might dilute their influence, presidential candidates who think I will run against them, contractors who have been paid money and disappeared, sympathetics of the corrupt. The list is endless."

Going foward, he said he will have to review his security to ensure that he is safe as he continues exposing corruption in government.

"I will definitely review my security detail upwards. And I will avoid meetings that spill over into the night. I am grateful to be alive. And I believe its for a reason but also for a season because one day I will still die."

He had earlier attended a Sunday service at Chuka University Christian Union, where he addressed students on the need for them to stand up for their country.

"I spoke about the need for university students to rise in many ways and defend their nation. I also spoke about the defilement of places of worship and why we should not give up hope in bringing change to our country," said Kebaso.

Some residents of Embu surprised the activist with cash gifts in support of his civic education campaigns.
