MP Amisi vows to oppose Ruto's bi-partisan proposals
Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi insists he does not trust President William Ruto.
On Sunday, Ruto suggested a bi-partisan approach to resolve a set of issues raised by Azimio leader, Raila Odinga after two weeks of opposition demos that had threatened to grind the country's economy to a halt.
In a rejoinder, Odinga called off the protests in a bid to give dialogue a chance.
Yesterday (April 03, 2023), the President met Kenya Kwanza Alliance house majority leadership, in what was seen as setting in motion, the establishment of a framework for a bi-partisan approach to recruitment of new IEBC commissioners and lowering the cost of living among other Odinga demands.
But Amisi, elected on the Raila Odinga led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party says he will oppose all proposals from the Head of State, because he does not trust him, even an inch.
"On Thursday, I will lead Azimio in rejecting all Ruto proposals. You can't trust that man. If he lied to millions of desperate hustlers, he would lie to anybody anytime .He has never believed in reforms. To him, the end justifies the means. Big NO," the MP wrote in tweet.
A section of Kenyans who reacted to his post differed with the second term MP.
"Caleb Amisi knows without RAO (Raila Odinga) in the picture he can't get even an MCA seat. These are people who have no work record but tell their electorate they are 'guarding' RAO in Nairobi. They are worriedthat RAO might retire with them," Kip Saito hit back at the legislature.
Johnson Matandi said, "I repect your sentiments but I'm totally opposed to maandamano. They're too costly—lost lives, diminished foreign investments, loss of earnings, etc, while you're taking home a cool 2 million bob at the end of each month. Try other methods to vent your displeasure."
"You have the insight. Ruto wants to buy time to fix the servers or whatever....He is not interested in anything. Why hasn't he disbanded the select panel in place right now if he was serious? Reject everything," another Kenyan urged the MP on.
While calling off the demos, Odinga said they reserve the right to go back to the streets again should there be no meaningful talks, going foward.
The two week bi-weekly protests led to death of over five people, four of them in Kisumu.
Among those killed in Kisumu is a police officer and a Maseno University student.
