Over 80 exhibitors are showcasing their products and services at the Mount Kenya agricultural show after three years break occasioned by Covid-19 pandemic.
The agricultural show which is themed “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” kicked off yesterday in earnest where various exhibitors from education, agricultural sector, hospitality, banking , community based organizations and government owned entities showcased their products and services aimed at promoting the Kenyans’ economy amid the skyrocketing prices of commodities.
Nanyuki branch Agriculture Society of Kenya (ASK) Chairman Newton Kabuthia said the show will be a great learning experience for residents on climate smart agriculture technologies.
“We have been out for three years due to Covid-19 pandemic outbreak. We have a lot that we have organized for those willing to learn. A lot of stakeholders are here showcasing their products,” said Kabuthia.
Laikipia county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said that security in and outside the Nanyuki showground had been beefed up pointing out that the show was organized in precision in bid to ensure that everyone gets a chance to have a great experience.
The chairlady of Baraka women center, a Community Based Organization Ms Felistus Siampale and one of the exhibitors said that the agricultural show will be a major boost in marketing their beads products.
She encouraged people to embrace Kenyan made products saying doing so would promote cultural diversity.
Lydia, a Nanyuki-based fine artist and another exhibitor however lamented that their work was not taken seriously since most people believe it is a male dominated industry and encouraged other women not to shy away from venturing in the fine art sector.
