Parents Urged to Enroll their Children in TVET Institutions

Leaders from Nandi County have urged parents in Tinderet Subcounty to take advantage of the various incentives offered by the government by enrolling their children in Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions on completion of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E)

The leaders who spoke during an open forum for career sensitization, placement, admission, bursary and scholarship awarding at Tinderet Technical and Vocational College, called on the parents to ensure that their children do not stay at home after completing their K.C.S.E exams.

Tinderet Member of Parliament (MP) Julius Melly called on parents not to fear to enroll their children in TVET institutions in the area adding that he will give them full support by lobbying for bursary allocation from the various companies operating in Nandi County.

“I am ready to give scholarships to students and I have already talked to a number of companies in the county to allocate some funds towards supporting our students in TVET institutions,” said the MP.

The MP also assured students in TVET institutions in the area that he will play a leading role in helping them get attachment from the various companies in the county.

He urged the students who secure internship placement in any company within the county to do their best noting that their performance will help them be considered for employment when vacancies arise.

The MP also implored the Director of Kenya School of TVET Dr. Edwin Tarno who was present during the event to expedite the process of opening of the technical teachers training college at Taptengelei and post instructors there as the institution is ready to enroll students.

Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago who was in attendance called on parents to ensure that all their children have skills by enrolling them to TVET institutions.

He challenged the residents of Tinderet Sub-County to fill their TVET institutions by enrolling their children and if they don’t, he will lobby for parents in Uasin Gishu to bring their children in TVET institutions in Nandi County to take up all enrollment vacancies.

“TVET institutions are not for those who failed their exams,” said the Senator.

The Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) of Kenya School of TVET Dr. Edwin Tarno challenged students who have qualified in various technical courses to take advantage of the flexible calendar of the Kenya School of TVET to be trained as instructors because the school has programs that are best suited to the students’ schedule.
