Lugari Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Simon Mutai has urged parents to pass away inheritance to their respective heirs, while still alive to avoid future succession disputes.

Mutai made the appeal Wednesday at Majengo in Mwamba location during the installation of Mwamba Sub Location Assistant Chief Nelly Amonyore.

The DCC said it is prudent for parents to initiate property succession to their heirs while still alive rather than leave them with challenges once they die.

He said the succession process is tedious, expensive and has been a source of many family feuds.

He said: “Let us save our children from succession challenges and expenses. If you are a man and God has blessed you with land, wife and children make sure you have subdivided your piece of land and give each beneficiary a title deed.

“If you have sold any land, ensure the buyer acquires a title deed too,” he added.

Mutai advised land buyers to ensure they carry out a proper land search and compel the sellers to initiate processing of title deed before giving out their money.

He said his office has been dealing with many land cases because the buyers did not take precaution.

On matters of education Mutai warned parents that they risk arrest and prosecution if they sit at home with eligible children, who are supposed to be in school.

He said the Lugari Members of County Assembly, the local Member of Parliament and the Kakamega County Government are all giving out bursaries to needy learners, hence the parents have no excuse not to take their children to school.

The new assistant chief pledged to undertake her duties with diligence and in accordance with the law.

Also present during the ceremony included Lumakanda Assistant County Commissioner Christine Cheboi and her Lugari counterpart Wambua Mbinya who asked the chiefs, assistant chiefs and the village elders to propagate the national government agenda to the grassroots level.
