Police FC acquire Thika Queens

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) premier league side Police FC now has a women's team in the frame of Thika Queens.

Thika Queens are three times Football Kenya Federation women premier league champions.

Police FC and Queens in a joint statement on Friday said the partnership and acquisition signals a new dawn in collaboration, and growth of women football in the country.

“In a mutually beneficial agreement, Kenya police fc has acquired Thika Queens football club, forging a new era of collaboration and growth of women football in the country," reads the statement.

“Thika Queens FC has been at the forefront of women football, consistently delivering outstanding performances and nurturing young talents some who have played for both junior and senior national women teams,” the statement adds.

The move follows a directive by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that clubs which qualify for the 2023/2024 African champions league and the confederation cup must have a women's team.

According to the CAF directive, any club without a women's team will be barred from taking part in the two competitions.

Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, the two front runners in the FKF premier league this season do not have women's teams.

Police FC will not be taking part in neither of the two CAF competitions next year.

The acquisition is therefore seen as part of planning for the future.
