Raila in UK for rest, business
By Peter Ochieng
Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader, Raila Odinga is out of the country.
Odinga flew out to the United Kingdom (UK) on Friday night, in what his spokesperson Dennis Onyango says is a two-fold trip.
According to Onyango, Odinga is out for rest and business.
He will be away for a week.
The ODM leader is expected to meet friends, family members and business associates in the UK.
"He will also use his stay in the UK to rest and relax, which he doesn’t do enough back at home," said Onyango.
At the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Raila bumped into Delaware Senator Chris Coons, who was leaving for the US.
This week, the Senator met Odinga and President William Ruto in what is considered a move to chart the way foward for the ongoing Azimio, Kenya Kwanza talks.
The former Prime Minister's last public function before flying out was during the 10th devolution conference in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county on Thursday.
Odinga used the platform to castigate US ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, who had a day earlier stated that the 2022 presidential contest was free and fair, by all standards.
William Ruto won the race, beating the Azimio leader, George Wajackoyah and David Mwaure.
Odinga did not take the statement lightly, calling the US envoy 'rogue.'
He threatened to institute measures of recalling her from her ambassadorial role.
“Tell the rogue ambassador Kenya is not the United States and it is not a colony of the United States; keep your mouth shut while here, otherwise, we will call for your recall back to your country," said Odinga.
President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua defended the envoy against Raila's attacks.
Odinga has been a busy man, especially from last month when he led the Azimio brigade in anti-government demos.
After calling off the protests, he has been moving around the country mourning people allegedly killed by police during the demos.
