Uhuru announces new venue for Jubilee NDC
By Peter Ochieng
Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced a new venue for the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) slated for 22nd May, 2023.
On 29th April 2023, Kenyatta gave a notice of the NDC which was to be held at the Bomas of Kenya.
However, this week, Bomas of Kenya management denied the party access to the venue, stating that it was under renovation.
The former President has moved with speed and announced another venue, ahead of the Monday meeting.
The NDC will now be held at the Ngong Race Course.
"Notice is hereby given that the venue of the Jubilee NDC has been moved to Ngong Race Course, Nairobi. All other details remain as per the notice published on April 29," reads the new notice.
Uhuru Kenyatta served as Kenya's 4th President for two terms from 2013, before handing over to his then Deputy, William Ruto after the August, 2022 polls.
He is the Jubilee Party leader. He called for the NDC in order to try and iron out differences in the former rulling party.
Jubilee is led by two factions, one by Uhuru and embattled Secretary General (SG) Jeremiah Kioni, and another by acting SG Kanini Kega and interim Party leader Sabina Chege.
The Uhuru faction is aligned to Azimio, while the Chege faction is collaborating with President Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration.
On Thursday, Kioni said the NDC is on, despite interference from the government.
"The Kenya Kwanza regime wants to take away this jealousy-protected right. The Jubilee Party NDC scheduled for May 22 remains on course."
The Kega faction has denied any knowledge of an NDC.
