Senate Committee investigates Andrew Mulwa over KEMSA scandal
By Robert Mutasi
The scandal of mosquito nets tender in Kenya Medical Supplies Agency KEMSA is still being investigated by the Senate.
A former director at the Ministry of Health in charge of medical services and now acting chief executive in Kemsa's jurisdiction was charged with the cancellation of the contract funded by the Global Fund.
Doctor Andrew Mulwa, had a difficult time explaining to the Senate committee of his role in the purchase of mosquito repellent nets.
"I forwarded a name to the National Program, the principal secretary then, procure 12,616,883 long lasting nets," he responded to the Senate Committee.
However, Mulwa has defended himself by saying that he adhered to the principles of establishing the tender, and was a former secretary in the Ministry.
According to him, Josephine Mburu changed the type of mosquito nets that had been proposed.
Mulwa explained to the senators that he feared answering some questions because Josephine Mburu was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and director of Health Services.
From this situation, the committee has asked him to confirm his claims.
