Albert Amenya: Signs and symptoms of a collapsing economy
Fellow compatriots, your country is at a crossroads. Your beautiful country is at the brink of political catastrophe unless the Kenya Kwanza administration abandons their current effort to scuttle our had earned democracy. The Ruto administration has no option but to respect the tenets of our democracy and allow its wheels to freely roll. If he was a good student, he should have readily learnt that current grandstanding does not augur well for the people of Kenya. The masses have suffered enough already. They expect to see some bright light at the end of the tunnel Kenya.
Our economy is now sitting on a precipice and nobody needs a Mwai Kibaki to know it. The managers of the nation’s economy are singing a new song. Inopportunely, even as foreign reserves keep plummeting, this President is insisting that the country is on the right path. During the campaigns, Dr. Ruto announced to the plebeians the Hustler administration would be a regime of “austerity measures which, to all intents and purposes; and with all due respect, is motion without movement. I would readily bet that none of the steps outlined in the hustler manifesto to curb expenditure and generate more revenue would be implemented. It was all hot air. The Hustler said he was set to provide alternative leadership that would focus on good governance, zero tolerance for corruption, accountability and, probity but it is clear clinging to power through unmitigated brigandage, they are hell-bent on putting a spanner in the works.
Before he was elected, Ruto Promised he was going to form the government of the hustlers, by the hustlers and for the hustlers but after assuming office, he formed a government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich. Look at the composition of his government; where are the Mama Mbogas, the barbers and Watu ya Bodaboda that Ruto used as a stepping stone to the helm of affairs of the nation?
For posterity and austerity, Ruto should sit down with Raila to debate Kenya. He should detach himself from loose mouths in his circles and surround himself with men and women of integrity; people who hardly speak until it is necessary. Presently, his kingdom is peopled with characters who’d rather help themselves with the people’s commonwealth than adding value.
Ruto should right the wrongs before history marks him as a tortoise of the Kenyan political terrain.
Undoubtedly, Ruto is a clever politician. He knows the vulnerable political neophytes amongst the populace. When the ovation is loudest, he bubbles out of his cocoon and regales them with political grandstanding and opportunism. The unsuspected neophytes among us in the society constantly play into his political shenanigans. Ruto will prompt you to dance in his front at your own existential peril. Those who don’t know him, when Ruto saunters politically, he is calculative with alacrity. Never be tempted to dance to his political drumbeats. He is a microcosm and epitome of all that is wrong with the Kenyan state. He is a political conniver who sees politics as a do or die affair.
Those who know Ruto’s political anatomy will rather dine with him using a very long specially-made spoon; otherwise, you are dooming your own political future. His adversaries will bear this writer witness. If you unrepentantly cross Ruto’s lines or step on his toes, whether by omission or commission; you are damned to his dungeon of unforgivable lair. Although William appears meek, he is unforgiving and a profaned adversary to antagonists. If you think this writer is joking, try and peruse through His political black books, scattered in these books are names of his political adversaries, which he keeps aping with discontent.
