Three motorcycles whose riders were suspected to be thieves stealing electricity cables were burnt last night after the owners fled in Kodera forest, Rachuonyo South Sub County.
The suspects were confronted after residents raised alarm in Kasire village, Kimanyi area in Kodera North location where three weeks ago a transformer was stolen plunging the residents into darkness
Area chief Joseph Omondi said he received a call at around 1 am that thieves were again stealing electricity cables in the area where a transformer was stolen and he quickly mobilized the residents to come out and secure the property.
“The residents came out in large numbers and fought with the thieves. The thieves managed to flee but three motorcycles were left behind,” he said adding “I arrived at the scene when the three motorcycles had been reduced to ashes.”
He said they transformer installed in near Kenyatta Otieno’s resident was serving Kimanyi SDA and the surrounding residents and businesses.
The chief said so far the thieves are unknown but investigators are following leads and hope police will be able to apprehend them in a short while.
“Community members have been able to identify the owner of one the motorcycles,” he said.
