Three people died on the spot in Kisumu County on Tuesday evening, after a trailer fell off a fly-over and landed on a tuk tuk.
The accident occurred at the Kachok fly-over, along the Kisumu-Nairobi highway.
A mother, her child and the tuk tuk driver died.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the truck driver also lost the battle as he was being rushed to hospital.
The trailer was carrying gumboots. After the accident, residents rushed the scene with a view of looting the gumboots.
Police used teargas to disperse the crowd.
Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o send his condolences to the families of those who died in the accident.
He described the accident as horrifying.
"I ask the police and national Ministry of Transport to find a lasting solution to frequent deadly accidents on the Nyamasaria flyover, even if it means barring lorries weighing more than 10 tons from using the flyover," he said.
The area is slowly turning into an accident hot spot.
Police are expected to issue a comprehensive report on the incident.
