The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has canceled its nominations in Moiben Constituency and ordered for a fresh exercise to be conducted on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
UDA canceled nominations that were held on Thursday, April 14, 2022 after the exercise was marred with violence and allegations of voter intimidation.
By the time of cancellation, two candidates believed to be the front-runners; former Eldoret East MP Joseph Lagat and prof Phyllis Bartoo were on a neck to neck battle.
“We now ask aspirants to continue preparing for the exercise…The board assures UDA members aspirants and Moiben residents that their democratic rights will be guaranteed,” Uasin Gishu County UDA Returning Officer Benjamin Kibet was quoted by Nation.

Whoever wins the UDA ticket will face off with incumbent Silas Tiren who will be defending his seat as an independent candidate.
Since 2018, Tiren has been at loggerheads with Deputy President William Ruto; the political kingpin of the region. Pundits have argued that it is highly unlikely that he will retain his seat, considering that the region always votes for the Ruto’s party almost to the last man.
Meanwhile, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago won the UDA party ticket to contest for the senatorial seat in the August elections. Area Woman Rep Gladys Boss Sholei won the UDA ticket for Woman rep, while Jonathan Bii alias Koti Moja trounced heavy weights including Soy MP Caleb Kositany and former Kenyan Ambassador to China Sarah Serem.
Kositany, Serem and other candidates who were seeking the gubernatorial tickets have raised concerns about the credibility of the exercise.
