Uganda has stepped up preparations ahead of the 2023 FIBA Women's AfroBasket competition from July 28 to August 6 in Kigali, Rwanda.
Head coach Alberto Antuma told Xinhua on Wednesday that the team is responding well while working on several aspects like fitness and team play.
"The players are well motivated and working hard because they know the tournament in Rwanda will not be that easy. We need to prepare well in order to be able to perform well," added Antuma.
Team captain Flavia Oketcho also made it clear that they know the strong teams they will face in Rwanda. "We are putting in the hard work now because we are determined to represent the country well," added Oketcho.
Uganda are drawn in Group C alongside 2007 champions Mali and 11-time continental champions Senegal who last won in 2015.
Uganda were granted entry into the tournament after finishing second to Egypt in the Zone 5 Qualifiers.
"We must treat every match seriously like we are playing a final," Oketcho said.
