West Ham are hoping to sign former Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kanté from Al-Ittihad for £20 million.

According to The Guradian newspaper, talks between the two sides are ongoing and there is a desire to make an agreement on both sides for the 33-year-old player who played for France at Euro 2024

Kanté, who moved to Saudi Arabia in 2023 after seven years with Chelsea, proved at Euro 2024 that he is still capable of improving at the highest level.

The Hammers are keen to sign an attacking midfielder after Kalvin Phillips failed to level up to expectations during his loan spell at Manchester City last season and his deal is still pending.

Their new manager, Julen Lopetegui, has been interested in Kanté for a long time and wanted to sign the midfielder during his short spell in charge of Real Madrid.

West Ham were initially interested in Spanish midfielder Aleix García but he chose to join Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

The midfielder, who has played 61 matches for his country, played in all six of France's matches at Euro 2024.

At international level he won the 2018 World Cup and West Ham believe a man of his experience will be key in their new era under Lopetegui, who replaced David Moyes at the end of last season.
