Village elder in fear after a resident threatened him

The Eldama Ravine Resident Magistrate Ms Alice Towett yesterday directed that the case whereby a man is accused of threatening to kill a Nyumba Kumi elder be heard coming Monday.
Kimei Kiprop was charged that on 19th of this month at around 5.30pm at Kipkaber village, Koibatek sub-county, Baringo County, he threatened to kill Michael Kigen.
According to the prosecution, Kigen was at Kipkaber shopping centre where he was charging his mobile phone at one of the shops when Kiprop arrived with a panga and pointed it to him threatening in Swahili, “nitakuua, nitakukatakata na hii panga, taka taka hii ya nyumba kumi hutanisumbua.”
It was then that the complainant fled to his home and alerted the area assistant chief who then informed Eldama Ravine police station on phone.
Later, the court further heard, the assistant chief, Kigen and police from Eldama Ravine police station went to the accused’s house and arrested him. They however searched for the said panga but couldn’t find it.
Kigen pleaded guilty and requested the court to forgive him saying he committed the offense under alcohol influence, “I request the court to forgive me for I didn’t mean it, it was just the influence of alcohol as I was drunk,” Kiprop claimed.
The magistrate set the hearing date on 26th, June 2023 when the complainant and other eye witness will testify before the court. Kiprop will remain in custody till then.
