Waiguru elected member of an international organisation

Kirinyaga governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru has been elected a member of an international organisation. She has been elected a member of the Executive Bureau of United Regions Organization ORU/FOGAR.

ORU/FOGAR is an international organisation that draws its membership from sub national governments in Europe, Latin American, Africa and Asia, in order to boost global policy through locally informed strong regional governments that are competent, have legal support and are funded to serve.

The second term county boss was elected courtesy of her position as chairperson of the Council of Governors (COG).

"I look forward to learning and advocating for last mile service delivery as is aligned with our own bottom up economic model in the global context," said the governor.

She will serve alongside other eight other leaders from around the globe.

OGU/FOGAR's objectives include bringing regions together throughout the world to identify their concerns, to work on joint proposals and to make their voice heard, and being the voice of the intermediate governments in parliaments, before the national governments and in all international bodies.

Others are facilitating the representation of the regions in global forums, as part of the construction of a global governance and representing the intermediate governments in all the organisations which have a direct impact on the quality of life of their populations, in a spirit of loyal cooperation with the municipal power.

Waiguru is serving her second and last term in office as governor.

She was elected in 2017 on the Jubilee Party ticket, before retaining the seat on the president William Ruto-led United Democtratic Alliance (UDA) party in August, 2022.
