By Albert Nyakundi Amenya a.k.a The Banana Peddler Without equivocation, I am not am not a member of any political party, neither am I staunch supporter of any politician. However, as a journalist cum writer, I must give Raila Odinga his rightful credit. Love him or hate him, Baba is a seasoned politician. He is a man of impeccable character, buttressed with very passionate convictions. He is the man you’ll love with passion if you happen to possess instinctual muse. Raila’s unmatched character is equipped with a compendium of experience and knowledge to both admirers and haters. Whether you like it or not, this is the only living man who possesses traits that are in common with great leaders who have shaped the world positively. These traits include respect, candor, patience and humility. These are the attributes that are true litmus paper test of a great leader. Raila Odinga is an anti-corruption crusader, an activist and affluent political commentator. He has always fought for the progress of his country. He is the only audacious man who takes on without fear, the mightiest in government. Baba voices his opinions freely and grants that every Kenyan has inalienable right to freedom of speech and expression. Baba always strives to get his facts rights before venturing into whistle-blowing. Everyone will agree that most his revelations are not complete without buttressing them with facts. Baba is an incorruptible man with patriotic zeal. In the past, I have said in this space time without number that this country needs careful surgical operations through a credible leader like Prime Minister Raila Odinga. [caption id="attachment_14572" align="alignnone" width="750"] File image of ODM Leader Raila Odinga. |Photo| Courtesy|[/caption] Baba fights for this country because he acknowledges that a country which swims in corruption, insecurity and deceit cannot expect a prosperous nation. He fights because he knows well that anything contrary to accountability is an exercise in futility. Unlike other hydra-headed mantras and narrow minded politicians with who are ignorantly corded with the status quo, Raila Odinga has an all-inclusive attitude to other people’s divergent opinions. Baba is a principled man. He comprehends his stealthy political moves. He is ahead of his likes in thought process. He knows their grandstanding and body language. A unique thing about Baba is the fact that he is impervious to criticism. He never considers any of his critics an enemy. He responds to his critics with his integrity intact. As M.H. McKee said, “Wisdom is knowing the right path to take. Integrity is taking it. One thing I admire in Raila Odinga is the fact that despite the political hurdles he’s faced especially during the Nyayo era, he has trudged on because he is a man of faith. He has evidently proclaimed his undying faith for his country. Ignore Miguna Miguna for once. He is a sick man who has little or nothing to lose. If you see him, tell him karma is a bitch and poetic justice is a bastard. I expect a lawyer of his standing to get his facts right before hurrying to cast aspersions on the person of Raila. History will remember Miguna as the only man who voluntarily set on fire everything he ever fought for. Shame. When Baba takes it to the soapstone, the entire crowd expresses its amazement. He is ordinarily right of center. He ambidextrously contextualizes and deconstructs his opponents but at the same time cheering up his people. Raila is a great optimist who believes there is enough for everyone’s needs and not for everyone’s greed. He has integrity and he stands by it with principle and unpretentiously. The man knows those who wanton in grotesque of attention-seeking and political opportunism. Raila is highly respected because his moral persona is a milestone in the history of our country. When this man opens his mouth, he comically speaks to the consciences of his supporters. Forget about his prowess in oratory, it was altered by Moi in Nyayo Chambers torture get his message. Long story short, we might have differences in opinions but some truths are too naked to hide. Let us give credit to great leaders like Raila Odinga and celebrate them when they are still alive. Let us not wait for them to die then we pretend that we cared. This is why I elect to celebrate Baba Raila Amolo Odinga aka the enigma as my hero. God bless this great son of the soil.   (The writer sells Bananas in the streets of Kisii Town)
