Driver arrested after a gun is discovered in Nairobi bound bus

A bus driver was among people arrested after police discovered a gun in a Nairobi bound bus, on Tuesday 11th April, 2023.
The bus carrying over 50 passengers was travelling from Mandera to the Capital, Nairobi, before it was intercepted by police in Tarbaj area, Wajir County.
Besides the driver, bus conductor, two passengers and a mechanic were also arrested.
Police effected the arrests after the aforementioned declined to give information on where the rifle was being taken to, and the mission it was meant to fulfil.
A report filed at the Tarbaj police station indicate that the bus was initially suspected of ferrying contraband goods.
"The bus was suspected of carrying contraband goods and was taken to Tarbaj Police Station whereby a multi-agency team composed of OCPD, SCCIO, CIPU Commander, and OCS conducted a thorough search," reads the report in part.
"The exhibits have been kept at Tarbaj Police Station pending collection by the TPU Wajir detachment. Case PBC, ATPU Wajir dealing."
