By Peter Ochieng High school students being sponsored under Equity bank's Wings to fly initiative risk being discontinued from the plan if they get involved in misconduct and indiscipline cases in school. Equity bank's marketing director David Nyamu sounded the warning on Saturday, April 16, 2022, during the commissioning of 422 new beneficiaries in Garissa County. "We will collaborate with relevant government authorities to ensure that we take action on any student with indiscipline cases and give the slots to other needy students," Nyamu said as quoted by The Star. We don't want to hear that the students under this program are the ones misbehaving in schools," he added. The event was attended by among others, Garissa Township Deputy county commissioner Solomon Komen and Garissa County director of education Hussein Ali. Ali urged for more slots in the coming years, especially for regions that have high poverty levels, such as Garissa. "The slots allocated to this county are not adequate because people in this area are nomads and have lost most of their livestock due to recurring droughts," said. The Wings to fly program fully sponsors bright students from needy families; from secondary school to university. The scholarship covers school fees, shopping, transport and pocket money for the selected students. Thousands of students are expected to join secondary schools from May 3, under the program.
