Jimi Wanjigi arrested

Safina Party leader Jimi Wanjigi has been arrested.

According to police, the politician cum businessman was arrested over claims of illegal possession of firearms.

He confirmed his arrest via a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“The DCI has illegally arrested me despite numerous court orders barring the same arrest,” he wrote.

He will spent the night at Kamkunji Police Station, ahead of his expected prosecution tomorrow.

Police say the action was prompted by advice from the Firearms and Licensing Board, over firearms reportedly found at Wanjigi's house.

“The licensing board advised us to take legal action against him over the illegal possession of the firearms and that is why he is being detained,” stated a senior police officer stated, as quoted by the Star Newspaper.

His arrest came few moments after the release of blogger, Aoko Otieno.

She was arrested over the weekend over 'explosive' social media posts targeting some top political leaders in the country.

She was released from police custody on a 100,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty to three counts of publication of false information.

Aoko, who was arrested at her home on Friday, was ordered go to appear in court on September 2 for a pre-trial hearing.

The court was told that her laptop and phone, which were seized during her arrest, would not be released just yet because detectives were still investigating the matter.

Aoko is accused of using her social media handle to spread false and defamatory information about complainant Beth Wambui Mbuitu, among others.
