Meru Senator Mithika Linturi on Saturday endured a tough time while popularizing his gubernatorial bid in the county after a group of rowdy youth chanted Azimio la Umoja slogans at his rally. In a video doing rounds on social media, Linturi and his team are seen speechless as the group chanted slogans that favoured incumbent Governor Kiraitu Murungi. Linturi recently joined the Meru governorship contest and is expected to face off with incumbent Governor Kiraitu. Linturi is seeking the seat on a UDA party ticket under the Kenya Kwanza alliance, while Governor Kiraitu will be using his Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) popularly known as ‘MBUS’. Until Linturi's announcement, Kiraitu was favorite to win re-election. This is after former governor Peter Munya opted not to resign as the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary. “For me as governor who was expecting him (Munya) as my main competitor, I must say congratulations and thank you to him. Makes my work a bit easier, we had planned an elaborate campaign, because this was going to be my last campaign, I was going to throw everything to it to ensure that I win again, my brother has made my life easier, it is a gift to me from God. Meanwhile, Kiraitu recently announced that his ‘Mbus’ party is supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga and the Azimio la Umoja coalition in the 2022 election. "We have done research, talked to opponents and listened to confidential reports. I can confidently tell you that the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya is no other than Raila Odinga," he recently announced. HERE the video courtesy of Philip Etale Facebook:
