Luo Elders Call for Unity across Nyanza

Odungi Randa, Chairman of the Luo council of elders has issued a clarion call to Luos across Nyanza to unite and move as one unit and put aside petty differences that do not augur well for the good of the people.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Siaya Governor James Orengo in Siaya accompanied by various council of elders’ representatives drawn from the six sub counties of Siaya, Odungi recalled the many milestones that the people of Luo Nyanza have achieved over time and reiterated that those achievements are worth safeguarding.

Odungi also praised Orengo for his efforts in ensuring that the people of Siaya come together for the benefit of the entire county and also making the county government an inclusive arm of the county, adding that it was a good thing for the executive to work hand in hand with the County Assembly, unlike the previous regime where the two had been at loggerheads.

This was the first visit by the council chair since his election to the post with Siaya marking his first official visit in the region after which he is scheduled to visit Mombasa County on Friday.

Odungi has also reminded the Luo nation that culture especially in these modern times plays a vital role in preserving the identity of a people and called on Luos across the length and breadth of the country to prioritize the preservation of their cultural identity.
