Makau Mutua reveals Ruto’s main disadvantage against Raila in 2022 election

ODM leader Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential campaign spokesperson Prof Makau Mutua has revealed the major disadvantage Deputy President William Ruto has as the country moves closer to the 2022 general election. Speaking during an interview with KTN News on Sunday night, Prof Mutua argued that Ruto lacks flexibility in regards to regions where he can  pick a running mate from. According to Prof Mutua, Ruto is under pressure to pick a running mate from Mt Kenya region, in a bid to rally the vote-rich region behind him during the August polls. The Prof further noted that this is a disadvantage for Ruto as other regions may feel ignored and punish him at the ballot. He also argued that some of the names being fronted as potential running mates for the DP lack political clout, adding that they may not add the much-needed value to Ruto’s vote tally. [Photo: Courtesy][/caption]On the other hand, Prof Mutua said Raila’s camp enjoys a lot of flexibility and can pick a running mate from any part of the country and still stand a chance to win the polls, as opposed to the DP whose chance heavily relies on the region. “I think for Azimio  we don't think the choice of a running mate is going to be the turning point for the  campaign. We are very happy with where we are as you see in the polls. “We have flexibility on our side to choose a running mate from any part of the country, I think on the other hand, however, the other side does not have that option. Mr Ruto has committed himself to appointing a running mate from Mt Kenya region…The only thing evident at this point is that none of the people around him, none of those being considered have any gravitas,” he said.
