9 people die in Kericho accident

Nine people died on the spot in an accident involving a trailer and a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) matatu on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at Kisumu Ndongo area, Kipsitet, in Kericho county.  

According to police, the deceased include five men and four women who were aboard the ill-fated matatu.

The bodies were moved to St. Vincent Mission Hospital mortuary in Muhoroni, awaiting postmortem and identification.

Earlier, a police report indicated that several people were feared dead, as a result of the accident.

A police report from the Kipsitet traffic base said the accident occurred after an unknown driver who was driving a motor vehicle from the Kipsitet General direction, lost control of the vehicle on reaching Kisumu Ndogo, about 1.30pm.

As a result, the vehicle lost its lane and hit a matatu driven by one man who died on the spot.

“As a result of the impact several passengers are feared dead,” read the initial report.
