Kakamega County Security team warns goons intending to disrupt burial of MCA

The Kakamega County Security team has warned a group of people planning to disrupt the burial of Kisa East Member of County Assembly (MCA) Stephen Maloba that they will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Kakamega County Commissioner John Ondego revealed that they had received information that some people were plotting to use goons to cause mayhem before and during the burial of the MCA slated for this coming Saturday.

Speaking to KNA in his office Wednesday, the County Commissioner, who was flanked by the County Police Commander Joseph Kigen and other members of his security teams, put on notice a gang calling itself ‘Paka Maang’aa’ that has been terrorizing residents in the area.

He warned that security agencies will not hesitate to take necessary measures against anybody who will attempt to disrupt the peace.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and anybody who will attempt to disrupt the peace will not escape the full wrath of the law,” he warned.

The County Commissioner called for calm and said a suspect in the murder of the MCA was arrested and arraigned in court and was still in police custody awaiting hearing of the case.

“We are calling on residents to continue volunteering information to security agencies about anybody plotting to cause chaos, but want to assure that security surveillance will be enhanced before and during the burial next Saturday,” he added.  

Ondego urged political leaders in the area to be on the forefront in preaching peace and offer solace to the bereaved families instead of seeking to gain political mileage.

“Plotters planning to use youth or boda boda riders to cause chaos will not be spared,” he cautioned.

The County Commissioner said police will escort the hearse Friday from Kakamega town through to Chavakali- Stand Kisa Junction, to Kilingili and then to Church for a memorial service and afterwards proceed to the homestead.

The County Commissioner warned that the government will not tolerate any harmful cultural rites to be performed prior to the burial.

“We are requesting the funeral planning committee to work closely with security officers to ensure the funeral procession sticks to the route,” he added.

The MCA was stabbed to death during a political meeting in Khwisero about four weeks ago.
