Kisii Residents laud Ongwae’s Appointment

Residents of Kisii County have lauded the Kenya Kwanza administration’s move to appoint former Kisii Governor James Ongwae as the chairperson of the Universal Service Advisory Council.
In a gazette notice dated November 15th 2023, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Mr. Eliud Owalo confirmed the appointment of the former Governor to the Council for a period of three years.
The CS also appointed Patrick Mwati, Dr. Amos Omolo, Lily Koech, Francis Gitau, Joy Mutuma, Dr. Ferdinand Nyongesa, Benjamin Rop and Elizabeth Limagur as members.
Addressing the press in Kisii town, the residents expressed their joy with the appointment saying the former Governor had been rewarded for his exemplary performance and hard work during his tenure as the county boss over a period of ten years.
Martha Ongeri, a hairdresser, thanked President William Ruto for the appointment, adding that Ongwae uplifted the lives of the people of Kisii and promoted peace and unity during his terms of service.
Similarly, Jasper Maina, a boda boda operator noted the former Governor worked hard to ensure the residents enjoyed the fruits of devolution despite the challenges that came with the implementation of the devolved system of governance.
Maina pointed out that Ongwae inaugurated several agricultural and infrastructural projects in the region that residents have continued to benefit from.
“As residents of Kisii, we want to laud the President because he has demonstrated that he values our community and urge him to continue uplifting us following the support we offered him during the electioneering period,” he said.
In addition, Maina called on the Head of State to source for continuous partnerships with other countries around the globe in order to cushion the citizens from the rising cost of living.
On his part, another resident, Zablon Ombati noted the former Governor’s rich experience as a civil servant will enable him to discharge his mandate effectively.
In a press release, Ongwae thanked President Ruto for the appointment saying it will provide him with the opportunity to contribute to the government’s bottom-up Agenda and serve the citizens of Kenya.
“I would also want to assure the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy that I will be part of this team in building this great country in order to ensure widespread access of ICT services and promote capacity building and innovation in ICT services in the country,” read part of the statement.
Ongwae noted the Council is a critical body in the Kenya Kwanza Government’s agenda to digitize its services, make ICT an enabler to the provision of millions of jobs to the youth and support the President’s call on the Digital Economy.
