MP Launches Football and Volleyball tournament for Youth

Kajiado East Member of Parliament(MP) Kakuta Ole Maimai has launched a football and volleyball tournament in the constituency targeting young ladies and men.

The tournament dubbed ‘Youth Got Talent’ will be played for the next three weeks and will bring together 150 teams from every ward with the winning team set to receive a trophy and a cash prize of Sh 100,000.

According to the legislator, the tournament will help in nurturing youth talent in the constituency in addition to empowering them to be who they want to be in the society.

He said that it is better for youths to be engaged in productive activities like sports rather than be in the streets abusing drugs.

Maimai revealed that he is in talks with Football Kenya Federation(FKF) for them to register three teams from Kajiado East Constituency.

“Many teams from the constituencies do not have any opportunity to participate in the big tournaments like the Kenya Premier League. I will ensure that by the end of this tournament, the three best teams are registered with the Kenya Premier League,” said the MP.

He added that many young people in Kajiado also lack training on refereeing and coaching which should not be the case.

In this regard, he revealed that he is also in talks with the Kajiado FKF chairperson, Alex Musikeri so that youths from the area are trained on coaching and refereeing.

 During the launch, fans were treated to a friendly football match between Merrueshi FC and Moran FC. They also enjoyed a volleyball match between the Osotua Volleyball team and the Ilkelunyeti Volleyball Team.
