By Judy Jerono A total of 30 bodies have so far been discovered at river Yala after three more bodies were on Saturday discovered in the same river in Siaya County. The three bodies add to 27 others that have been retrieved from River Yala over the last few months. It is suspected that the three bodies must have been swept from somewhere else by the fast-moving river due to the rains which is currently experienced in some parts of the country. Samuel Amodha, who is a cattle herder in Jina Village in Gem stumbled upon the bodies a few days ago. "I found this body trapped on this huge stone inside the river bed. Going closer, I saw other two bodies” Amodha recounted. He said that the bodies have been rolling down stream as a result of the heavy down pour being experienced at the moment. Chacha said that it has been a challenge removing the bodies due to the slippery rocks though he said more efforts are being put in place to retrieve them from the water. “The bodies are still stuck in between the rocks, they are visible,” he said. According to the locals, one of the bodies of a male victim had no clothes. The body was badly decomposed to the point of flesh peeling off and the knee bones were broken A few meters from the first body, lays another body which was sprawled on top of a rock with its skull exposed. A human rights activist based in Siaya County, Fredrick Ojiro said that there was a clear indication that the people were being tortured before thrown in the river. "What we have seen is horrific. I have seen a body whose eyes were blindfolded and the mouth tightly wrapped in cloth, a clear indication that there was torture. We believe that there are still more bodies inside there," Ojiro said. He calls upon the National Government to comb the entire River Yala "We want the bodies thrown here can be retrieved and identified for their families to have peace." He added while weeping. The government is yet to unravel the identity of those behind the apparent killings since all the bodies retrieved from the river bear the hallmarks of torture and murder.
